Analysis of 3 Teen Movies


The Twilight Saga: New Moon



This film explores the genre of teen romance with elements of horror.
Primarily, the target audience for this film are teenage girls from the age of 12 and above. As the film is revolved around romance, girls are thought to be drawn and lured in by the idea of romance and love. Bella, the main actress attracts the female audience as one can relate to her situation where she is torn between two young men who she both loves and both love her, too. The contrary between Jacob, the masculine, quick tempered man to Edward, the quiet, mysterious man additionally attract the female audience as any girl could admire any of the two men, regardless of their type; whether it's the 'macho' man or the soft, loving and caring man. Both male characters tick some of our boxes as typically, we are attracted to the masculinty of Jacob and the heightened emotions of Edward.


The Hunger Games



This film explores the genre of teen science fiction.
This film is primarily and neutrally targeted to male and female teenagers from the ages of 12 to and above. The main female actress who narrates the film, which allows the audience to get an insight of her mental state and emotions, attracts the female audience as they may relate to her femininity and will power to train and commit to winning the competition she is forced to take part in. However, within the film, there are elements of violent competition included which attracts the male audience. The element of violent competition may also attract females as they may be drawn into the introduction and growth of feminity.


Mean Girls



This film explores the genre of teen comedy.
This film is targeted to females of all ages. Primarily, this film is targeted to teenage females, mainly from the ages of 13 and above. The comedy elements attract all females as the enhanced generalisations appeal to everyone as we all can relate to a particular characteristic or element of the stereotypical characters within this film. The dominant female cast of promiscuity attracts teenage males as conventionally boys begin to find love interests or become sexually active during their teenage years.
