Filming Friday
During the half term on Friday Group 30 went on to their second shoot of filming after an successful shoot last week Thursday. We had to film the scene where Devon would ride his bike to college and would then meet the other characters (The Jock and Sweetheart)
The first scene that we did was when Devon had gotten ready and was walking down the stair case, this scene was very tricky as we had to put the tri-pod in a safe position as it could easily fall down the stair case breaking the camera equipment and possibly hurting Devon.
After we had finished that scene we had to film where Devon would put on his sunglasses to add a certain 'coolness' effect that you would normal see in shows like C.S.I Miami so he wasn't seemed like a typical nerd. Below you can see what I meant by the cool glasses effect and a shot of devon about to do it.

The bike |
When that scene had finish we had to film the scene where Devon would ride his bike to college and there he would encounter the other characters this scene was tricky as we where losing day light fast and this road was very busy during that day. Also this was the scene where Devon would get attacked and bullied by the Jock and he would get a basketball thrown at him which caused us some safety issues as we are not a professionals with a budget which meant that we would have to do our own stunts.

On Thursday the 27/02/14 we plan to re shoot the first scene as the footage was to dark and there was some improvements that we work on.

Final Project Research - 4 Pieces Of Music
Final Project Research - 4 Pieces Of Music
Possibilities for our Final Project
If we were to use this song, we would use it from 0.28 as the music changes there and alters to a urban, grime feel which could be used when the jock enters the scene and bullies the nerd as the music can be part of what symbolises the jocks character. For example, if the nerd is walking down the street and the music changes to this song, it could act as a signal of the jocks' approach to the audience.
If we were to use this song, we would use it from 0.10 and onwards. The reason we chose hip hop music from the 80's is because we wanted our film look as though it was set in the 80's, due to our inspiration from Napoleon Dynamite. We thought the film would be played when the nerd is riding to school, almost to give a false representation of him - to make him look cool, although he is the complete opposite. The nerd listens to music like this as a way to persuade himself that he is cool because of the music he listens to, regardless of how he dresses, acts, etc.
We were inspired by the opening of Juno. We thought this would represent the nerd's unconventional character as his character is the complete opposite of socially constructed as is this song. This song is nothing you'd hear on tv or on the radio. We thought this song would be used as he rides through the neighbourhood as it portrays his jolly and goofy attitude/state of mind.
We thought we would use this music as he is being bullied by the jocks or while he is being chased as it sets a rough, negative atmosphere to the audience, connoting the upcoming negativity with the jocks. We thought we would use this song as a motif to represent the jocks presence so that the audience know when his presence is due. This music also illustrates the rough, aggressive nature of the jock.

REVIEW OF FILMING SESSIONS
In our first session we filmed the first few shots of reggie waking up in his house. When we shot this we made sure we:
- Filmed the same shot from multiple angles.
- The mise en scene was correct and appropriate.
- Referred to the storyboard for shot order.
- Used the skills we had learnt in class to prepare the scene best as possible.
In this first session i feel the whole group felt it went well as we got the shots we wanted and we used the time wisely.
In our second filming session we aimed to get the rest of the opening filmed. Unfortunately due some travel issues we had limited time to do so as we were running out of time and daylight. This caused us to rush through the filming which meant we couldn't shoot multiple scenes from different angles and that some of our shot types were missed out. In future i would say we needed to allow more time for us to film to avoid what happened previously.
Follow our Instagram!
This is Group 30's instagram page where we will upload photos on our process and behind the scenes exclusives so we can keep our fans interested and also use a form of social media to spread news about our film. we will also upload weekly and add videos to the instagram,So please follow.
Planning final project ideas Bio of characters Reggie Bernard's survival guide
Reggie:Is your average teenage nerd who lives in Seattle with his family he is often picked on and bullied by the jocks in his high school due to his apathy towards his dress sense and that he lacks in sporty activities and excels in his academic studies which is seemed to be the typical functions of a nerd. However it is his last year in high school and he is determined to leave his mark and get the girl of his dreams Linda Lexus.
(Played by Devon Muller)
Brody: Is your teenage Jock who is idolize by everyone around him and cares about his looks rather than his brains, he often picks on the the nerds in his high school especially Reggie as he is hates him for having a crush on his love interest Linda who he tries his hardest to get her attention but she always ignores him due to his over cockiness and his Jock like attitude which fuels him to keep on trying to get her attention.
(Played by Korrie Powell)
Linda:Is your humble teenage girl who is hard working and extremely focused in her studies but yet beautiful and almost seen as desirable as from the guys in high school, she often gets a lot of guys trying to get her number and flirt with her but this is the least of her attention as she trying to get into the top college in California, she knows little about Reggie as they sit next to each other in the same Maths class.

Music/Sound in Teen Films Research
Music/Sound in Teen Films Research
Juno
The song playing in the opening sequence is called 'All I Want Is You' by Barry Louis Polisar. Overall, this song is an upbeat song that accentuates a happy atmosphere to its listeners. This song gives the audience a slight feel of the overall atmosphere of the film and it's characters. This is not a typical song that you would see at the top of the charts. It's unique, unconventional and quirky, like Juno's character. Despite her unexpected pregnancy, the story is quite uplifting and inspiring to how the family deals with it so calmly and remain as close as they were all along. This song originates from a rural area in America - possibly in the Southern states in America. In conclusion, the opening song connotes a lot about the films plot, atmosphere and characters.
Kidulthood
The song playing in the opening of 'Kidulthood' is quite urban and suspenseful. It creates an uneasy atmosphere as the music overall, connotes negativity within the film. The urban genre of the music illustrates the setting of the film as it is set in a fairly poor area in the UK, filled with vandalised estates filled with graffiti, and where a lot of crime occurs due to the lack of money and resources. The overall feel is quite ghetto. This gives us an idea to who this film is targeted towards and what type of characters play in this film.
She's The Man
The song playing within the opening is very upbeat; hip hop music. It is something teenagers are typically expected to listen to. This instantly reveals the target audience for this film. As the music plays, there is a girl (main character) playing football. This instantly appeals to all teenagers; males and females. As does the music. The music used illustrates the activity of teenagers and the extent to which she is having fun as the music is something you would dance to at a concert, connoting that the atmosphere of this film will be very happy and cool. Overall, the music reveals a lot about the film which is why my group and I have to take the music we will use in our opening, into deep consideration as it conveys a great deal of the film.
As our film will be a comedy, the music we use cannot be too serious or sorrowful as it won't portray the true background of the film to the audience.

Interview with mum
Korrie: So mum what was teenage films like when you where around my age?
Mum: Well i didn't watch a lot of teen films as i lived in Jamaica and teen films wasn't as popular here as in countries such as America and the UK. But when i moved over to London in the 80's i started to watch more of them.
Korrie: What were your favorites?
Mum: Well, i have many but i mostly enjoy Breakfast club because i had an extreme crush on the rebel guy.
Korrie: You mean Judd Nelson right ?
Mum :Yeah!, him he was so good looking back then.
Korrie: Wait you had teenage crushes?, oh my.
Mum: Yes i did , you know we are all young once Korrie.
Korrie: It looks like you hardly watch any Teen films now why is that?
Mum: Well i had kids, especially one annoying one...
Korrie: Seriously mum?
Mum: I'm just kidding, well i grew up and stopped watching them after i had your older sister, teen films kind of lost their touch and originality , they became more to do with drugs and sexual activity which when i grew up watching teen films they hardly included this.
Korrie: So films like American pie?
Mum: Yeah! films like that, way too raunchy for you teenagers. I hope you haven't watched any of those films Korrie?
Korrie: I can't promise that.
Mum: Korrie!?
Korrie: sorry, haha alright thanks mum.

Genre and Sub-genre Task (2)
Genre and Sub-genre Task
Mainly focused on Sub-genres in Teen films
A teen film is conventionally targeted towards the teenage target market, sometimes including young adults, varying from the ages of 12 to 25. Teen films attract teenagers by basing the plot around the special interests and experiences of teenagers. For example, first love, teen angst, family problems, drugs, violence, rebellion, etc. This method lures teenagers in as they can relate to the characters' situations in a film.

In order for a teen film to attract and gain a wider target audience, they have to include styles and genres in the film that appeal to others, other than the primary audience. Sub genres are changed and developed in order to meet the target audience's expectations.
Sub-genres are generally initiated through stereotypical characters which are created to represent the theme or as an effective short cut to character introduction with the audience. Stereotypical characters were established in the 1980's in a film called 'The Breakfast Club.' The film was narrated by the main character who very directly and bluntly introduced the most popular stereotypes: The princess, The brain,The basket case, The criminal and The athlete.
The common Teen film sub-genres consist of:

The common Teen film sub-genres consist of:
- Comedy - This sub-genre is usually identified through the character who brings the jokes into the film. This stereotypical character is usually not the best looking and is somewhat an outside who struggles to socialise comfortably and isn't popular but uses his funny and sarcastic personality as a defence mechanism and as a method to attract the 'popular' girls who do not acknowledge him.
- Romance - This sub-genre is usually represented through a character who lacks popularity and confidence and conventionally, tends to be very anti-social. What usually happens in a Romance Teen film is their personality is very guarded and their walls are very highly built but someone who is a potential love interest gradually wins them over and make the other open up and become a better person.
- Sports - This sub-genre is usually represented through male character who is extremely popular, amazing at sports (usually American football), bullies the nerds, lacks intelligence and uses his whit as a way to attract the females. This stereotypical character is called the Jock.
- Science Fiction - This sub-genre is usually represented within a character who is conventionally the nerd. His qualities consist of an obsession and expertise in technology, extremely antisocial, lacks popularity, is bullied and picked on, has never had a girlfriend, and is miraculously in love with one of the most popular girls in his school.

Pitch feedback
In today's lesson we had to pitch our teen film 'Reggie Bernard's high school survival guide. Overall the pitch went very well as i had some very good feedback from my audience and my teacher. My role was to editing the presentation so Lorita could add the information, I also went to my hometown Crouch End to take pictures as that's where we would be filming and added it to the slide to give a better understanding for the audience to understand our films. I also included the audience by asking questions so i could get back full analysis so i could review what i need to do and change and what is good about our film. However my group did forget to show our production scheduled but we have spoken to miss about the issue, I have taken in this mistake and learned from it making sure that i go over the slides properly.

Reflection/Feedback on Pitch
As part of our AS Media coursework, we have been asked to make our own Teen Film opening sequence, considering all elements of a film, from sound to camerawork, to editing, to shot types, to character representations and mise en scene.
Before today's lesson, we were given the task of planning our own slideshow on either Powerpoint, Slid.es or Prezi in order to show ICT variation, covering all bases of our Pitch presentation:
My group and I ensured that we revised over the information needed in our pitch, thoroughly so we are able to fluently speak and elaborate on our pitches. This caused us to freely interact with the audience and ask questions for feedback on our initial ideas for our Teen film opening.
We were recorded whilst presenting our pitches so that we can edit our pitches to shorten them slightly and post them on our blog which my group will eventually do.
Before today's lesson, we were given the task of planning our own slideshow on either Powerpoint, Slid.es or Prezi in order to show ICT variation, covering all bases of our Pitch presentation:
- The title of our movie - How we came up with the title and what it tells us about our film.
- Brief outline of movie - What the film is virtually about. Who the main characters are and how their stereotypical characters will be established through mise en scene.
- Planned locations - Where we plan to shoot our film and why we've chosen this particular location.
- Props, costumes, mise en scene - How will we use these elements to establish and clearly identify the representations of our chosen character types.
- Full storyboard of our opening - Show our planned storyboards for our opening sequence and how certain shot types will be used to identify something about the characters backstory.
- Sound/music from Soundcloud and Creative Commons - Which type of music we chose to use. How we found the un-copyrighted music. Why we chose the certain sound/music. What type of atmosphere it builds upon. What is happening in the film opening when the particular sound is playing.
- Production schedule - What we're doing and when. Why we've chosen them days and what times.
- Risk assessment - What could go wrong. What is dangerous and risky in what we're doing. How we'll avoid these problems from occurring.
- Skills audit to date - What we've learnt in terms of software, blogging, and equipment. E.g. how to professionally use a camera. How to produce a professional camera and make a clear film opening.
- Institutional detail - Which film company would produce our film? Which films have they previously produced? Are the previous films they've produced similar by plot or genre? Are they mainstream or independent? What do you want your film to be? Will the production company have financial backing if you want it to be mainstream?
- Audience detail - Who is your target audience? What is the target age range? How would my film appeal to these age ranges in terms of mise en scene, sounds, characterisations.

PITCH REVIEW OF DEVON
In the Pitch, i probably had the least input in the preparations for the day, therefore i need to thank my dons Korrie and Lorita for producing a tremendously lovely presentations for the class.
The slides i was given to talk about were about costume for Reggie, the inspiration for our opening and a little bit on the sound and music choice. During the slides i spoke about, i think i spoke in enough detail and clearly showed that i knew what i was talking about, which really helped the group look proffessional.
In the future i think i need to look like i am more engaged and actually enjoying myself to the max like pepsi. also i need to look less ill.
much love, ya boy Dev.

Music in teen films
In teen films there is a lot of music that is used for many different reasons these maybe for the starting or ending scene in the film , for a specific character or for a scene in the film.
However in my teen film we are going to use Hip-Hop to deceive the audience into thinking that the nerd is a cool person by showing parts of his body with expensive items such as him wearing Nike air-max trainers as these are very expensive and seen to be 'cool'.
Music & Characters
Teen films use music to describe the character that their showing ,as an audience we can best interpret a character before actually seeing them with the simple use of music for example if a heavy Rock song was being played for the build up for a character we would expect the character to be emo or a rebel whereas if a film was portraying a thug they would use hip-hop or rap music.
In this clip the song is by Missy Elliot who is a female MC know for her very 'dominant' and 'female powered' lyrics which relates back to clip as it shows a group of popular girls walking dominantly down the school hallway showing their superiority and dominance around the other cliques such as the nerds and un-popular girls.
This clip is the music video for Wheatus 'Teenage Dirtbag' which is the main song on the American pie soundtrack, the song relates back to nerds Hench the name 'Dirtbag' as this is a slang word for 'useless' and 'waste' as most Jocks say this to words to hurt their feelings and bully them.In this clip the song is by Missy Elliot who is a female MC know for her very 'dominant' and 'female powered' lyrics which relates back to clip as it shows a group of popular girls walking dominantly down the school hallway showing their superiority and dominance around the other cliques such as the nerds and un-popular girls.
However in my teen film we are going to use Hip-Hop to deceive the audience into thinking that the nerd is a cool person by showing parts of his body with expensive items such as him wearing Nike air-max trainers as these are very expensive and seen to be 'cool'.
This sound clip is the music that we will used for the nerd I have chosen this as it really gives off the old school vibe that I am looking for with very Hip-Hop instruments such as the drums and the fundamental rap music .
Music for our teen film
As me and group are now approaching deadline for our pitch we need to find music that can go with our opening. Since we are going to trick our audience to think that our main character is cool but really is a nerd. I have decide that we should use Old school Hip-Hop music as this type of music makes a character seem cool and popular and the reason why I have chosen old school instead of rap music of today is that me and my group are going for and 90's feel as we want to included niche audiences of a older age due to we are a tent pole film so we need to attract as much people from different targets audiences to watch are film in order to make enough profit.
As I was born in 97 I didn't have as much experience listen to old school Hip-Hop music which was very popular in the 90's. In order to find Old school Hip-hop music i researched about Hip-Hop artist who very big at the time such as Bigge smalls, 2pac , Gangstarr etc. During my research i came across an app that 'TuneGlue' this app allows me to search any musical artist name then it comes up with other musical artist that are similar to the one you searched.
Now with a greater knowlegde of Hip-Hop music i was able to use creative commons to find free copy right Hip-Hop music, after researching I have found 4 pieces of music that may use:
What I like best about each track:
1) This is the track that I am most likely to use for my opening as this really shows the feel im going for as this music can really trick the audience into thinking our main character is really cool. It aslo says at the start "lets party" with this being said I can make my main character seem cool as you would stereotype someone who says this to be popular as many popular people attened parties.
2) This track is the sort of music my father would play to me while i'll be in carseat when i was a kid, the techno feel makes it sound very retro and old school which is what im looking for in my opening and the rapper lyrics are catchy and fast paced which is good as my main character will be riding a bike on his journey.
3)At the 13:00 mark i enjoy the drop and sudden change of beat which switches to a more upbeat sound, also the scratching sound really emphasis the sound of Old school Hip-Hop music as scratching is a key code and convention of that genre.
4) I enjoy this track as it brings a funky feel to opening which i am also for as my character tries to be cool but comes of more of a goofy nerd so the sound compliments him.

POSSIBLE MUSIC FOR TEEN MOVIE OPENING
In our teen opening, we wanted a reggae vibe for it as:
The reason i think this song would work well is because it has a bouncy vibe to it which matches the cycling of Reggie.
This song would work well as it is about riding a bicycle which obviously fits excellently with what we hope to show in the film.
These examples would be perfect, however these songs are patented therefore we would have to ask the owner of the songs permission before we used it, and to be quite frank i don't think my ghost whispering skills are good enough to make contact with bob if i'm quite honest.
To overcome this rather large obstacle, we will have to use creative commons as source of wondrous Reggae sounds and ting.
Here is a list i wrote when researching the Reggae archive of free music via SoundCloud:
- Everyone loves a bit of Reggae
- Its unexpected of Reggie's character to listen to Reggae therefore it adds a bit of depth and mystery to his character.
We plan to use the music for when Reggie is cycling through the suburbs of Crouch End to get to school. songs i would love to use include:

These are all possibilities for the music we could use in the final scene...
RISK ASSESSMENT
In our teen opening, there are certain risks which we have to take in order to keep the hollywood standard we have promised our anticipating audience.
One of the risks that i will take is riding my bicycle. Riding a bike can be fun as well as a great source of exercise for the human body in general, however many things can go wrong. In preparations before i ride i must make sure my bike is in tip top condition. I could just simply take my bike to Halfords, however this involves me getting my family to drive me all the way to Ponders End and spending money which i do not have. Instead i will need to tighten all the screws on my bike myself, as well as check that the tyres are pumped up (which they are not at this current moment), and that the saddle is in a comfortable position. As well as that, i must make sure i can actually ride still as it has been roughly over a year since my delicate behind has interacted with the cheap, leather-looking plastic saddle.
Another risk assessment we should do is on the choice of location. The area which we have chosen to shoot our scene in is Crouch End.
Crouch End is not too far north of the college and is easily accessible for everyone in the group.
As you can see we are not likely to get robbed in Crouch End but there is a strong chance we could run into some very anti-sociable people.
In conclusion these are the only real risks i was able to highlight. Hopefully, because of the devilishly handsome author of this blog post, Group 30 will stay amazingly safe pon da roadz.
