Music in teen films

In teen films there is a lot of music that is used for many different reasons these maybe  for the starting or ending scene in the film , for a specific character or for a scene in the film.

Music & Characters

Teen films use music to describe the character that their showing ,as an audience we can best interpret a character before actually seeing them with the simple use of music for example if a heavy Rock song was being played for the build up for a character we would expect the character to be emo or a rebel whereas if a film was portraying a thug they would use hip-hop or rap music.

In this clip the song is by Missy Elliot who is a female MC know for her very 'dominant' and 'female powered' lyrics which relates back to clip as it shows a group of popular girls walking dominantly down the school hallway showing their superiority and dominance around the other cliques such as the nerds and un-popular girls.
This clip is the music video for Wheatus 'Teenage Dirtbag' which is the main song on the American pie soundtrack, the song relates back to nerds Hench the name 'Dirtbag' as this is a slang word for 'useless' and 'waste' as most Jocks say this to words to hurt their feelings and bully them.

However in my teen film we are going to use Hip-Hop to deceive  the audience into thinking that the nerd is a cool person by showing parts of his body with expensive items such as him wearing Nike air-max trainers as these are very expensive and seen to be 'cool'.

This sound clip is the music that we will used for the nerd I have chosen this as it really gives off the old school vibe that I am looking for with very Hip-Hop instruments such as the drums and the fundamental rap music .
